Collaboration by Alex Iona & Massimo Stirneri

Ripwards
In Ripwards we put our efforts to narrate the story that takes our character from longing to achieving dreams. The first part describes the thoughts and feelings one has when they are in a state of yearning, having birds as the main symbol of freedom/total liberty. It is followed by the second part, where we introduced new symbols, such as the heart and the spiral. In this part, our character becomes active, one with its environment. It gets drunk on the beauty of nature and finds a bond between fantasy and real life. The dream sequence is a reinforcement of a powerful longing and it strengthens the heart symbol, and the third part is the final journey in the unknown, the hardest, as one walks in darkness, knowing that at the end of the road, a door has opened and the longing comes to an end. Visually it is a journey from light to dark, because one also needs to walk the dark corridors of oneself in order to achieve clarity.

Alex Iona is a visual artist from Romania who turned to photography, painting and mixed media after studying Decorative Art (Metal Art) in Bucharest. In her photography she goes back and forth from being an observer of quiet things to telling a story through self portraits or collage. She looks for beauty in unexpected places with the aim to capture feelings, atmospheres and explore the infinite potentials of the absence of color. Her works can be seen here: http://selfsegments.tumblr.com/ and https://alexiona-ars.tumblr.com/
