Art & poetry by Archita Mittra
Halloween
the devil follows me each night- eyes red as high school love we date on off, shatter glass, exchange expletives tricks & treats, stumble, spill paint in art therapy, share a bed (sometimes i’m under) this year i’ll dress as the lady of shallot, stitch a gown out of a pre-raphaelite painting, smear face powder, so i ain’t pale but a death mask, carry a golden mirror to see him (walking behind me) till something else, or i crack sometimes when i stare into the mirror, i get scared at the ghost i’ve become- soon enough it’s going to be that time of the year again when i’ll dance with the devil & all the minions with their candy-stained mouths will think it’s so so normal (when it’s n-n-not) Previously published in Quail Bell Magazine |
