Poetry by Azia Archer

No You Are Not Ashes

If you feel invisible
Until you learn to scream

I’m so sorry, little bird
I hear your song

Your wings are not yet clipped
You can fly, so fly

There is an entire sky out there
Waiting for you

Don’t smother that tiny fire,
Fan the flames

You are a phoenix, baby
So burn

Burn and burn and burn
Until you’ve been transformed

Into a bigger bird
The biggest bird we’ve ever seen

Turn that scream
Into a sun

The world will bloom
Because of you
