The fall of Icarus
A friend once told me that Icarus is falling
as we sipped our ______ coffee, picked
at our ______ order delivered by ______. Did you know,
she said, that due to the growth of ______ (they have an outlet
in every front room in Britain now), we have shifted
our reference points, connections, our thoughts
and so ______ and ______ and ______ and ______
have finally pushed the old myths away
and now Icarus is falling, is falling, Icarus is falling
out of consciousness

Painting by streetlights
1. This one’s a corpuscle, a golden sun suspended in space illuminating soulless pavement below.
2. This one’s a violence of energy, pushing against the world around it, racing out to touch the surrounding air.
3. This one is a lone fragment of a distant fire burning far, far away on an empty hilltop, warning the ships out at sea away from the dangers of the cobbles.
